VIRGINIA, Ill. (AP) — A judge has granted a defense motion to lower the bond of a former Illinois prosecutor who faces a second murder trial in his wife’s death.
Judge Bob Hardwick on Monday reduced the $5 million bond imposed on former Adams County assistant state’s attorney Curtis Lovelace to $3.5 million. Lovelace has been behind bars since he was charged nearly two years ago with first-degree murder in his wife Cory’s suffocation death on Valentine’s Day 2006.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports friends of Lovelace’s, Rich and Libby Herr, posted 10 percent of the bond, or $350,000. Lovelace will be under GPS monitoring while free.
Lovelace’s first trial earlier this year ended in a mistrial. His second trial is set for Oct. 24. A status hearing is set for Sept. 8.
