Canadian Pacific Railway closing Davenport maintenance shop

Canadian Pacific Railway will be closing its Nahant maintenance shop in Davenport sometime this summer.

Canadian Pacific Railway will be closing its Nahant maintenance shop in Davenport sometime this summer.

The shop's closure means the elimination of 21 jobs. A Canadian Pacific spokesman said all the employees will be able to relocate to other U.S. shops, including those in Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul.

The move is "an effort to improve the efficiency of CP's locomotive maintenance operations," according to a company spokesman.

All heavy repair work will move to other locations. Light maintenance and servicing work will continue to take place in the area of the yard adjacent to the shop.

Canadian Pacific is not closing its terminal at Nahant Yard.

The company said Nahant will continue to be an important terminal to CP's U.S. network.
