Moline walk raised more than $19,000 for Make-A-Wish

The walk was held to raise money for Make-A-Wish, an organization that grants wishes for kids battling life-threatening medical conditions.

MOLINE, Illinois — More than 100 people met at Moline's River Drive the morning of Saturday, June 4, to walk a Mile for Wishes.

The walk was held to raise money for  Make-A-Wish, an organization that grants wishes for kids battling life-threatening medical conditions.

Many walkers were dressed in Disney costumes and bright outfits. Lead walker Maci Massa and her family raised the most funds out of all teams at the event. In 2012, the Massas traveled to Disney World through Make-A-Wish, an experience Maci's mom says she'll never forget.

"We want to be able to give back because they gave us something - I can take my kids there over and over and over and I'll never be able to do what Make-A-Wish was able to do for us," said Toni Massa, family member.

WQAD News 8's own Christina Hepner emceed the walk. The fundraiser brought in more than $19,000.
