A trio of new businesses are set to open their doors in Davenport's East Village this summer, including the neighborhood's first market-rate apartments.

Next week, the first tenants will begin moving into the Pierce School Lofts. Built in 1899, the historic building served as an elementary school until the 1930s. Now, its been converted into 41 apartment units.

"I have people who are like, 'I've been wanting to live in the East Village, and I found out about these, and I just have to get in,'" said leasing manager Evelyn Pulkowski.

In addition, Wide River Winery plans to open a tasting room at 1128 Mound Street. The building has been under construction for the past couple months, and the owners hope to open by the end of June.

Across the street, a bakery will soon open in the former Woodland Gallery. The owners of Brew plan to expand to second location, where they'll focus on breads, savory items and French pastries.

"We really love this area. We think it needs a bakery," said owner Stephanie Sellers. "We want to bring more to the Village; we want to bring it back a little bit."

The bakery is expected to open by the end of July.
