DAVENPORT, Iowa — Jackson Elementary School is embracing nature as they learn other subjects.

The students are blending art, science, and reading, all while learning about sunflowers.  While combining all of these topics, the kids got a lot accomplished; they read a story, made a mural, and planted a garden.

Projects like this can help students see how science and art can go hand in hand.

“It feels like the kids that worked on it made their mark in the school, actually having something that people will remember them by,” said fifth grader, Emma Villalpando.

Fifth grade students and kindergartners were paired together to work on the project.

Jackson Elementary is an arts-basics school, where different subjects can find connections to learning.
