MILAN, Illinois - They've outgrown their building, so the Quad City Animal Welfare Center is moving part of its facility to a second location in Milan.
QCAWC is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter located at 724 West 2nd Avenue in Milan, and that location will continue to serve as an adoption and education center. They're buying the former Abel-Keppy Animal Hospital at 612 West 1st Street, where veterinary services - including the spay and neuter clinic - will be located.
"We see that there is a need in our community for lower-cost options for spay and neutering, and we also see that there's a lot of unwanted animals in the community as well, so offering the service will really help with both of those issues," said QCAWC Executive Director Patti McRae.
The new clinic facility will allow QCAWC to hire a second veterinarian, and to perform thousands more surgeries each year. That will help avoid a backlog, since surgeries are currently booked about five months in advance.
The new location is set to open in August 2016.
