ELDRIDGE, Iowa - An Eldridge, Iowa mom accused of starving her son has bonded out of jail, and the boy's biological father says the child belongs with him.

Valarie Clark, 29, and Jacob Brasmer, 24, are both charged with felony child endangerment.  Brasmer is Clark's boyfriend.

The two are accused of failing to properly feed and provide medical care for the now 7-year old boy for the past three years.

A Scott County judge adjusted their previous $25,000 cash bond on Tuesday, which allowed both to hire a bail bondsmen. They were released from jail Tuesday afternoon.

The boy's biological father came to court. He says he is caring for the child and does not want him back in Clark's care.

"Why should she have him. He can't go back to her," he said.

Police reports say doctors believe the child was in long term starvation and in danger of dying when he was brought into a hospital in Iowa City in February. He also suffers from a disorder that doesn't allow his body to process proteins.

Iowa DHS is involved in the case.
