ONEIDA, Illinois – A student has confessed to making a bomb threat that closed schools in the ROWVA district, according to the school superintendent.
Classes were cancelled for Wednesday, May 11, 2016, after a note – warning of a bomb threat for that day – was found at ROWVA High School on Monday, May 9.
District administrators and law enforcement searched school grounds and found nothing, but classes were cancelled for Wednesday out of an abundance of caution.
Now, Superintendent Joe Sornberger says a student has confessed to making the threat.
“I cannot go into detail about student discipline because of student privacy laws, but I can tell you that discipline for that action will be handled according to school policy,” Sornberger said in a statement issued Friday, May 13.
“We are thankful that no one was injured and that we now know the source of the threat,” the statement said.
Because classes were cancelled, the last day of school for ROWVA students was moved to May 20 instead of May 19.
There was no immediate indication from the sheriff’s office about any possible criminal charges.
