QC group raises money to help vets stay in their homes

A Rock Island woman is reaching out to the community to help two area veterans on the verge of losing their homes.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois -- A Rock Island woman is reaching out to the community to help two area veterans on the verge of losing their homes.

Monica Evans is the founder of the Pickard Project, a group that helps out veterans dealing with PTSD.

Evans held a fundraiser at Racers Edge in East Moline Thursday, March 31, after getting a call from the veterans who say they've received eviction notices. One of the notices, said Evans, is up April 1.

"I met one of them Tuesday and she just cried and I looked, I went into her house, and it's just empty so we have furniture and stuff that we have been collecting all year long," said Evans.

Evans says she needs to raise $5,000 to help both veterans and that she is planning more fundraisers to help them out.
