CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police say two people were killed and seven were wounded in shootings across the city Thursday, March 30, 2016.

The Chicago Tribune reports a 23-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were fatally wounded after they and a 16-year-old boy were shot just after 4 p.m. on the West Side. The boy was listed in good condition.

No one was in custody in any of the shootings, and investigations are ongoing.

Police officials have said violent crime has increased in the city this year.

On March 1, the department said homicides and shootings had doubled in 2016 compared with the same period in 2015.

WGN reported that by the end of March, Chicago had seen around 800 shootings.
