Tuesday night's tornadoes led to a busy evening for area 911 dispatchers.
In just two hours, between 7 and 9 p.m., Rock Island County received approximately 97 phone calls on its emergency and non-emergency lines. Over the course of the entire evening, between 6 p.m. and midnight, dispatchers answered roughly 169 calls.
On Friday, March 18, 2016, dispatchers released recordings of some of the first calls they received after the tornado tore through East Moline.
"I think we just had a tornado come through," said one caller. "I can't see nothing, but it just ripped the side of my... I know it ripped the power off of my house, and my big tree in my front yard is uprooted, so there's gotta be lines down in the road."
Another caller was driving a FedEx delivery truck when it flipped over near Rapids City.
"We're still in the vehicle. We cannot get out, unless that back door... but we can't even see to get to our back door, because there's packages all over," she told dispatchers.
Just two dispatchers handled the influx of calls Tuesday evening.
A confirmed EF-2 tornado hit rural Rock Island County. It touched down at 7:25 p.m. and traveled 4.8 miles in 10 minutes, ripping through 40 homes in its path. Four homes were destroyed in the Evergreen Village subdivision, according to the NWS.
Wind speeds reached 130 mph with this tornado, which was 200 yards wide.
Ten people reportedly suffered minor injuries from the storm.
