As strong storms hit the Quad Cities and surrounding communities, the National Weather Service began sorting out multiple reports of tornadoes and funnel clouds in the area Tuesday evening, March 15, 2016.
They received two spotter reports of a funnel cloud crossing the Mississippi river about two miles south of Keokuk, Iowa just before 6 p.m.
A trained spotter reported seeing a tornado two to three miles southeast of Warsaw, at the corner of Highway 11 and 136, also just before 6 p.m.
A storm chaser reported a tornado about two miles west of Good Hope in McDonough County, Illinois at about 6:20 p.m.
Ten minutes later, a trained spotter reported a tornado south of LeClaire and southwest of Rapids City in Rock Island County. At about the same time, law enforcement officers received numerous reports of a tornado along Route 9 between Good Hope and Bushnell.
A trained spotter reported a tornado in McDonough County four miles northwest of Scottsburg at 6:38 p.m.; an emergency manager also reported a tornado four miles northeast of Good Hope at about that same time.
Spotters in most storm-struck areas also reported hail, anywhere from pea-sized to ping pong ball-sized hail, as storms crossed the WQAD News 8 viewing area.
