Special thanks to Denise Nelson for sharing this on my Facebook page over the weekend. She snapped this shot of some "wave clouds" that were spotted over downtown Rockford, Illinois.

These clouds are usually called "wave clouds" but the formal name are "Kelvin-Helmoltz" clouds, named after the Meteorologists who discovered the scientific processes behind them.
By adding some arrows to the photo, you can see how the waves form. These clouds are most often seen during times of windy weather. Also, areas downwind of mountain ranges have a higher chance of seeing "Kelvin-Helmoltz" clouds.

If you have a good shot, please share them! Rainbows, sunrises, and animals are my favorites!
