It's past shenanigans that are costing one downtown Davenport bar a special St. Patrick's Day permit.

"All bars are going to have problems. We just try to stop the problems. Numerous times, I`ve stopped people with knives and guns," Shenanigan's Pub security worker Jason Lake said.

Davenport alderman denied the Shenanigan's Pub application for outdoor liquor sales for March 12th, a time when attorney Michael Meloy says several other downtown bars will be selling outside.

"Allow Shenanigan`s to have the outside sales permit and not singling them out when you have 7 or 8 other bars that are getting approved for the same request," attorney Michael Meloy said.

Davenport Police officers say the bar has been a frequent headache. They say calls to the bar over the past year have required an average of seven officers at a time, creating a strain on resources.

"It goes through our whole public safety, it goes through our ability to police the community. This bar does have a significant impact on how we police," Davenport Police Capt. Jeff Bladel said.

Shenanigan's patrons stood up one at a time, hoping to sway the council's decision.

"I just want everyone to know that I don`t understand how there`s police calls getting put on us. They claim there are 189 calls over the past two years. A lot of those calls we weren`t even open for or not there for," Shenanigan's Pub owner Don Davison said.

Alderman ultimately decided the bar shouldn't get an outdoor alcohol sales permit during the celebration.

"It`s unfortunate that he`s broken his agreement with the city and the people of Davenport. I think we have to move forward," Davenport alderman Ray Ambrose said.

When it came time to a vote, every alderman voted against more shenanigans this St. Patrick's Day weekend.

The outdoor liquor sales requests that weekend for Mac's Tavern, the Carriage Haus and Kilkenny's were all approved by the council.
