Quad City fans pack the Fieldhouse to cheer Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl

Hawkeye fans who couldn’t make the trip to Pasadena, California, celebrated an historic season from home.

Hawkeye fans who couldn't make the trip to Pasadena, California, celebrated an historic season from home.

On Friday, January 1, 2016, dozens of Iowa fans gathered at the Fieldhouse in Davenport, hoping to cheer the Hawks on to their first Rose Bowl victory since 1959. Three hours before kickoff, many fans were already arriving to snag a seat at the Iowa bar and grill.

"We are completely full. We don't have an open seat," said manager Fallon Luskey. "It gets really exciting. We hear mall guests come in and say they can hear us clear down at the other end of the mall."

Unfortunately, Iowa fans wouldn't have much to cheer about on Friday.

Just 11 seconds into the game, Stanford's Christian McCaffrey put the Cardinal up 7-0. Stanford would go on to win 45-16.

Although it wasn't the ending they imagined, Iowa fans said this will remain a season to remember.

"We still have a good time. It's just friends getting together to celebrate the Hawkeyes and party on," said lifelong fan Rick Noll. "With all the camaraderie up here, everyone's a fan, a Hawkeye fan, and everybody gets along and just has a great time watching the game."
