A Davenport woman is ringing in the New Year by hosting a free New Year's Eve dinner for the homeless, the hungry, and anyone in need of company.

Angela Porsche, also known as Minister Angie, has been cooking all night in her kitchen, with a menu that includes chicken, ham, black-eyed peas, red beans and rice and cornbread.

"What started out as a desire is turning into a movement. That no one has to be alone on this night", she said.

Last year was the first free New Year's Eve dinner, and about 100 people showed.

Porsche works in the mental health unit at Genesis Health Systems, and this year, some of her co-workers contributed to the meal.  Members at her church and family members are all pitching in.

"I got beautiful kids. I got three of them, and nine grand-kids. We are population nation, and we give back to the community. That's what we teach our kids. Not to be selfish", she said.

The dinner starts at 8pm at First Paradise Baptist Church in Rock Island at 1520 9th Avenue. It includes some entertainment, food and fellowship and is open to the public.

"We're gonna close out 2015 and start 2016. Our message is never give up. I don't care what it looks like, because there's always brighter days to come. I am celebrating. When I can look at a person that might otherwise be by themself. That's a celebration for me", Porsche said.
