Two adults and three children escaped fire in a duplex Wednesday, December 16, 2015, in Davenport, Iowa.

Fire fighters responded to the 1200 block of North Stark Street, just to the south of the Emeis Golf Course. The fire started around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

There was smoke and water damage to the home. However Davenport crews say the building is not a total loss.

“The other side is amazingly unaffected and undamaged,” Davenport Fire Fighter Mike Ryan said. “There’s no water damage. There is some smoke damage on that unaffected side.”

Ryan says people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but it was unclear whether any of these people were hurt.

Local volunteers were helping two adults and three children with food, clothing, a safe place to stay, and emotional support, according to a statement from the American Red Cross.
