The lady wildcats and the lady lancers took to the court tonight and although Davenport North and North Scott are rival schools they're teaming to beat a common foe.
Sixth graders Lauren Boynton and Grace Tollefsen have been best friends for most of their lives. They both play for Davenport North's youth team. They also were both diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
"It's nice to talk to be able to talk to someone who actually understands it without having to explain everything," said Tollefsen.
So the Davenport North girl's basketball team wanted to do something to help.
"As a team we kind of pick a couple community service projects every year and we thought we would really get behind these two and show support for the association and funding for the disease," said basketball coach, Ron O'Brien.
Tuesday night donations were collected at the game, to raise money for research not only in honor for some of their own, but also for a player on the other team. Rylie Rucker who plays for North Scott also has the disease.
"It's a disease that many people don`t think about and its a lot more complicated than you think," said Rucker.
Both sides coming together to raise awareness and hopefully turn Type 1 diabetes into type none.
All the money raised will go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
