Resident escapes from house fire in East Moline

One person was reportedly injured at a morning house fire in East Moline, Illinois.

One person was reportedly injured at a morning house fire in East Moline, Illinois.

The fire was reported at a two-story home in the 700 block of 21st Street, in the Watertown neighborhood, at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015.   The location is just east of Route 84, near the John Deere Harvester Works, in East Moline.

A man who lives in the home and escaped the fire on his own was taken by ambulance to Genesis Medical Center-Illini in Silvis, Illinois. He reportedly suffered from smoke inhalation and head lacerations. He has since been released from the hospital and is okay.

No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire was out within about a half-hour.

Curt Frerichs, the East Moline Fire Department Battalion Chief, said while it might be too early to tell, the home appeared to be a total loss.

"We had one of our off duty guys had just left work and was driving home and saw the smoke, arrived on scene, and found the subject outside. We were already en route to the fire," Chief Frerichs said. "When he got here, he tended to [the victim], checking for any other people that might be in the house."

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The East Moline, Silvis, Moline, and Rock Island Arsenal Fire Departments all responded to the scene. The Red Cross was called as well.
