Veteran's Day is a time to cheer on and honor our nation's heroes. And that's what happened today throughout the Quad Cities.

The celebrations started this morning at the downtown Davenport parade. There were more than 800 Davenport community band students who played patriotic music up and down the streets. 200 JROTC students marched as well.

The Central High School Marching Blue Devils ended the parade by playing the National Anthem on the steps of the Scott County Courthouse.

The Rock Island Arsenal also put on a commemorative event where veterans were honored with a wreath placement, an honor salute, and the playing of taps.

The keynote speaker was David Woods, Scott County Veterans Service Officer and Vietnam veteran. He spoke about the importance of remembering veterans everyday, not just on days like November 11. Woods also discussed the importance of thanking all veterans, no matter when or where they served.
