MACOMB, Illinois – Investigators said they found cell phones and other items stolen from a high school bus, that was at Western Illinois University in Macomb, for a band competition.
The Joliet West High School marching band was at WIU for the annual Western Illinois University Marching Band Classic competition when the thefts reportedly happened, as their bus was parked in Q lot, near Hanson Field, on Saturday, October 24, 2015.
At least four cell phones, a purse, two wallets, a shirt and cash were reportedly taken according to WIU Public Safety.
WIU student Daija Lee, now 19, was arrested on campus Monday, November 2 in connection with the thefts. Investigators said they found stolen property when they searched the Calumet City, Illinois home of Kareem Spann, who was also arrested. Jail records showed Lee was released after posting bond, and that Spann remained held in the McDonough County Jail on Thursday, November 5. Spann is not a WIU student, according to a statement from the university.
The Joliet West Marching Tigers finished 2nd in Class AAAA, and 2nd overall among all four band classifications, according to the school’s website.
