Eight men from Walnut, Illinois charged in connection with burglaries

Eight people are accused of stealing firearms, ammunition, televisions and other items in a series of burglaries in Bureau County, Illinois.

The arrests were made between Wednesday and Friday, October 21 and 23, 2015.  Eight men, all from Walnut, Illinois, were arrested and charged with burglary; some face additional charges.

Daniel Johnson, 18; Zachary Miller, 18; Austin Macquairrie, 19; and Andrew O’Toole, 19 were all charged with burglary, according to a statement from the Bureau County Sheriff. Derek Benevento, 19, is charged with burglary, residential burglary, and possession of a stolen firearm. Patrick Cater, 20, was charged with burglary and residential burglary. Tommy Cain, 20, was charged with residential burglary. Riley Michael, 19, was charged with unlawful use of weapons, unlawful possession of firearms without a FOID, and burglary.

Police searched a home in rural Walnut, and recovered several items from the reported burglaries, including TVs, firearms, and ammo.

Investigators said the arrests may be related to almost a dozen burglary cases.
