A high school student in the Quad Cities is making sure thousands of area families have something to eat.

On Sunday, September 27th, 2015, volunteers packed 15,000 meals in a matter of hours at St. Pius in Rock Island. Each bag has six servings.

The meals will go to families who visit the River Bend Foodbank and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

16-year-old Clare VanSpeyBroeck organized the event after she says she saw the need firsthand as a 4H Teen Hunger Ambassador.

"You'd think that it's just people in Africa and Haiti and places like that that are hungry, but there's actually a lot of hungry people in our area that need food and the help," she said.
