An East Moline woman who ran an in-home daycare has plead guilty to striking a one- year- child who she says wouldn't stop crying.
Roxanne Coulsen entered guilty pleas to three misdemeanor charges on Friday.
Under the terms of the deal, Coulson will serve no jail time unless she gets in trouble with the law again.
The little girl, named Lyla, now two, was hit so hard her face was severely bruised.
Initially, Coulson told the little girl's mother and later police, that a little boy in the daycare had hit her in the face with a toy.
She later admitted slapping the girl.
Coulson plead guilty to battery, endangering the health of a child, and obstruction of justice for lying to police.
She was sentenced to 24 months conditional discharge, and 180 days in the county jail, which was "stayed". That means she doesn't have to serve the time unless she breaks the law or terms of her probation.
She was also fined $2,000.
The little girl's mother, Samantha Moody says she wishes the penalty could have been more severe.
She says her daughter still "hits herself in the face, which started after this happened. She'll smack herself in the face and yell bad! She hits her babydolls", Moody said.
The Department of Children and Family Services pulled Coulson's daycare license. Prosecutors say she was taking care of 11 kids by herself, the state only allows a maximum of 8.
