The opening of a new Premier Wholesale Bakery in Rock Island was celebrated with a ribbon cutting.

Hill & Valley Inc. held its ribbon cutting Saturday, August 15, 2015.

The company, founded in 1986, was originally called the Rock Island Baking Company.  Since then the company changed its name to Nancy's Pies and finally Hill & Valley, Inc. when it was purchased in 2005.

When they decided to build a new facility, company owners wanted to keep the business in Rock Island, which will secure 150 jobs in the area and create new ones.

Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley said he hopes this will inspire other businesses to move into the area.

"That's actually the idea to try and get more down here," he said. "You got McLaughlin Body, you still have the River Cruise and if the LRC can add more business it would be a great addition for them and this location."

The bakery is located at 320 44th Street.

The old location had previously been demolished to make way for a Walmart.
