Two lanes of Harrison Street are closed this evening as crews get ready to shut down the road completely.

The full shutdown starts next week for work on repairing storm water sewer lines. Harrison Street's surface will be replaced as well. The closure is from 12th Street to 5th Street, and all traffic will be rerouted to Brady Street. Beginning next week, Brady Street will have two lanes in each direction.

"The sewer and storm system we hope to get 50, close to 100 years without major maintenance. On the surface itself, with good care and feeding and routine maintenance, we could get 20 plus years out of that," said Davenport Public Works Director Mike Clarke.

Resurfacing the road will cost nearly $2 million, with another $1 million in sewer work. Work is expected to be finished by the end of December.
