A man who has committed his life to helping children in need is being honored.

W.K. Juncker is retiring from the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities after 35 yearsa.

His friends and family surprised him with a retirement party at Jumer's Casino on Saturday, July 18th, 2015. There was cake, conversation, and plenty of pictures.

"My wife is very good at this," Juncker said. "She had been planning it since December and I knew something was going on, but I had no idea what and this has been great"

Juncker told News 8 he has never worked a day in his life.

"Sometimes when you spend 35 years doing something, you don't realize how many people you touch," he explained. "When you look around this room, that's why I was successful. All these folks helped us accomplish what we needed to do."

Juncker said there are some great people taking over for him and that it is time for him to move onto retirement.
"I just want to thank all the volunteers that have been here today and that's what made this - what I've done and what we've been able to do with the Children's Therapy Center - so successful," he said. "Also, a special thank you to Channel 8. They've been a great partner for many, many years."

WQAD is a proud partner of the Children's Therapy Center and its telethon every year.
