Amid allegations of improper interaction with some students, embattled Sherrard agriculture instructor Corey Terwilliger has resigned.

Terwilliger’s resignation was accepted by unanimous vote of the Sherrard Community Unit 200 School District Board at their meeting held Wednesday, May 20, 2015.

A no contact order was approved by a Rock Island County judge after two students accused Terwilliger of verbal and physical abuse in his role as a teacher and FFA advisor. Terwilliger was placed on paid leave from his position at Sherrard High School.

The sheriff’s department confirmed they opened a criminal investigation into the matter, and Terwilliger was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery.

Minutes from the board meeting showed Terwilliger’s resignation was effective immediately.

Court records showed a hearing scheduled for Thursday, May 28 regarding the orders of protection; and a hearing was scheduled for June 8 in connection with the battery charges.
