Moline’s new School Board president is also one of its newest board members.

Moline-Coal Valley School Board Vice President Justin Anderson was selected president, after the man selected to lead the board two weeks ago abruptly resigned.

Anderson was just sworn-in as a new Board member two weeks ago.  At that same meeting, board member Ben McAdams, a former Moline-Coal Valley school superintendent, was elected Board President.

But McAdams resigned days later after a public disagreement with School Superintendent David Moyer.

In a tumultuous three day stretch, McAdams publicly criticized Moyer, lost the backing of other Board members, apologized to Dr. Moyer, and resigned.

Anderson was elected Vice President two weeks ago and accepted the new position of president during the Monday, May 11 meeting.

“There’s times there’s more than you and the person in the mirror in the room you’re going to have a disagreement”, said Anderson.

“It’s how you handle that disagreement, work through it, and move forward that I think speaks to the cohesiveness of the unit and what you’re all there for.”

McAdams remains on the School Board.

The Board also reversed it’s move two weeks ago to reject a new math program for kindergarten through fifth grade students called “My Math”.

Anderson was among those voting against the measure last month saying he opposes “Common Core” curriculum programs.

He reversed that vote during the May 11th meeting.
