A teacher who has been court-ordered to stay away from two of his students is now the subject of a criminal investigation by the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department.

A no-contact order remains in effect against Sherrard High School teacher and coach Corey Terwilliger, after students Kaysyee Haley and Isabelle Ausdale, both 18, went before a judge this week with claims of inappropriate and abusive behavior.

Terwilliger has been on paid leave since April 13th, while the school conducts an internal investigation. In addition, the Sheriff's Department is now involved after the Sheriff says a third party mandated reporter notified the agency.

"Yes, the Sheriff's Department was notified earlier this month and we have opened an investigation into some of their claims. We're certainly looking at the whole picture," said Sheriff Gerry Bustos.

Attorneys for Mr. Terwilliger have declined comment on the no-contact order, which is in effect until a future hearing on July 7.

The no-contact order requires the teacher to stay at least 500 feet away from the girls.
