Rock Island Police say that one person has died after an officer involved shooting in Rock Island.

Police say it happened near the area of 12th Street and Glenhurst Court on Thursday, April 2, 2015. The shooting happened near the Church of Peace United Church of Christ, near 12th Street and 12th Avenue.

Police Chief Jeff VenHuizen says officers received reports of shots fired near the area of 12th Street and 10th Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found an armed male suspect, and a foot chase began.

Police say a confrontation broke out later, and the officer fired their weapon. Police say the suspect was hit. They transported him to Unity Point Health Trinity, where he later died.

Police have not released the name of the person who died or the officer involved in the shooting. The Rock Island County Integrity Task Force has taken over the investigation.

The outside agency is asking that the community have 'patience as the facts are uncovered" and the investigation is completed.

The task force later said an autopsy was taking place in Dixon, Illinois Friday, April 3. Investigators were attending.

The man shot to death in an officer-involved shooting has been identified as 32 year-old Darrin Langford.
