It might not be one of the Quad City area's biggest communities, but it's making  big difference this weekend in the lives of those who need it.

Cheryl Paasch started the Camanche MDA Fundraiser 26 years ago.

"My husband and I have twin sons, Jason and Josh were diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when they were nine-years-old," said Paasch.

She wanted to put the fundraiser on to help other families with medical expenses. All the money raised goes towards the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"Our first year I believe we raised $3,000 dollars which I thought was incredible and now our record year was last year, we raised $36,000" said Paasch.

The small community of about 5,000 has raised more than $423,000 over the years, designating their fundraiser as the biggest fundraising event per capita in Eastern Iowa for MDA.

The weekend long fundraiser kicked off with a basketball tournament, which will take place throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, March 28th, a hog roast will go on from 4 to 6pm, which will feature 50/50 raffles, silent auctions and the kiss the pig event.  Tickets at the door are $9 for adults and $6 for kids.
