Paying It Forward: With A Love Of Learning

Volunteers play a huge role in many schools across the country, and a team of volunteers keep one local library running smoothly.

Volunteers play a huge role in many schools across the country, and a team of volunteers keep one local library running smoothly.

"It’s a beautiful little library for the students here," said Cindy Leyendecker. She was talking about the Library at the Andalusia Elementary School.

It is completely run by 12 volunteers.  One of those women is Pam Einfeldt.  She stepped up even more to help through a recent school consolidation and is always passing on her love of reading to the students that she helps every day.

That’s why Leyendecker nominated her for the Ascentra Credit Union/News 8 "Pay It Forward" award.

"She just spends a lot of time and energy here to make sure its a good place for students, loves working with them,"  said Leyendecker.

Einfeldt has volunteered at the library for 10 years.

"Last year I worked 9-3:30 every day because we were consolidating schools and work to get all the books put together from all the different schools," said Einfeldt.

She has cut down on her time a bit, now spending about two and a half days a week in the library.

"I think it's a good way to help the kids, volunteering my time and I enjoy all of them and I love making them feel special."

She spends her time straightening up, organizing and helping to guide the students to find the right book for them, saying, "I love to read.  I think you need to read to do anything in life."

She hopes to pass that love of reading on to the students.

"Try to find a book they like, I try to help them as much as I can, but I love it.  If I had known I'd love it this much I would have done this from the very beginning."
