Stern Beverage President and CEO Matt Stern plans to move his medical marijuana dispensary to southwest Rock Island, according to city council documents shown for Monday, March 2, 2015.

Stern had previously planned to build his dispensary off of Blackhawk Road near the Rock Valley Plaza. Council document show that Stern now wants to build his dispensary on 14 acres of land at the northeast corner of Andalusia Road and Illinois 92 in the southwestern part of the city. Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley says that the old site on Blackhawk Road is not big enough for Stern's dispensary.

Green Thumb Industries, however, still plans on building a cultivation center, in the southwestern part of the city. Both companies will work together to give medical marijuana for Illinois residents. City council approved an agreement for the cultivation center at their Monday night meeting. GTI says they plan to break ground soon.

Stern wants his dispensary to open by the end of the year.  City council was also suppose to approve an agreement for the dispensary meeting at their meeting, but that's being put on hold for further negotiations.
