Administrators at some Quad City area community colleges are breathing a sigh of relief, as they appear set to dodge budget cuts in Governor Bruce Rauner's proposed budget plan.

Earlier this week Governor Rauner announced his budget proposal. In the proposal, state universities would face big cuts, like Western Illinois University, who would lose out on $16 million in funding. However, for community colleges, it's the opposite. The funding they receive from the state would remain the same. It's a nice break for Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois.

"We have seen declines in the state funding the last three years so to see flat funding that would be positive in our mind," said Lisa Blake, treasurer at Carl Sandburg.

Blake says it also makes their budget planning a lot easier for them.

"Anytime you can have predicted funding would be great. If this comes through it would be great because then we have a budget from last year that's in place so we have some idea where we're at. We know what programs we're running so it would be a positive for us," said Blake.

Carl Sandburg is hoping they don't see more than a five percent decline in funding.
