Funeral services set for man killed at trailer plant in Kewanee

Funeral arrangements were set for a 21-year-old man who died in an apparent workplace accident in Kewanee, Illinois.

Geoffrey Schmidt, of Kewanee, was reportedly working as a second-shift team leader, at Great Dane Trailer Co., when he became trapped beneath a trailer Friday evening, January 23, 2015. Schmidt was taken to a local hospital where he died just after 7 p.m.

Schmidt graduated in 2012 from Kewanee High School according to an online tribute to his life. Schmidt left behind a fiancé, his parents, seven siblings and many extended family members and friends.

Visitation was planned for Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home in Kewanee, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m.

An additional visitation was set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, January 31 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home in O’Fallon, Illinois, followed by funeral services at noon. Schmidt will be laid to rest at O’Fallon City Cemetery.
