A Moline man was accused of being intoxicated when the pickup truck he was driving ran a red light and broadsided a car on Avenue of the Cities.

Police said 54-year-old Patrick Roche of Moline was driving a Nissan pickup truck eastbound on Avenue of the Cities when he “disobeyed a red traffic signal at the 19th Street intersection,” and crashed into the driver’s side of a northbound Oldsmobile Alero just after 7 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015. The Oldsmobile was pushed into two westbound vehicles that were stopped at the red light.

Firefighters had to use the “jaws of life” to get the 24-year-old man driving the Oldsmobile, and a 25-year-old woman who was his passenger, out of the car according to Moline Police Department Public Information Officer Detective Scott Williams. They were both taken by hospital to a local hospital, and the driver was later airlifted to a hospital in Peoria.

No other injuries were reported, Williams said.

Roche was charged with disobeying a traffic signal, illegal transportation of alcohol and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, Williams said.

Roche was held in the Rock Island County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
