Four people were injured when an aerosol can ruptured at Chicago department store.

Several ambulances were called to the Macy’s on State Street just before 10 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014.

According to our sister station, WGN in Chicago, the fire department reported that an aerosol can got hot and ruptured in the building’s basement.

The incident happened during an employee breakfast, according to the report, and there were no customers in the store at the time.

WGN said four people were taken to area hospitals. One woman suffered severe facial burns. The other three victims' conditions are unknown.

Macy’s Vice President of Media Relations released this statement:

“Four associates were injured in an accident related to a cooking event on the lower level which happened pre store opening.  The accident is currently under investigation.  No customers were injured as the store was not open at the time.  The store is open and operating normally.
