The annual Run With Carl race will continue in 2015, according to organizer Jamie Lange.

The family announced that the Bettendorf Schools Foundation and the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation will take over the race in 2015. They made the announcement on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Life Fitness Center in Bettendorf. The race is always held on Labor Day.

Carl Schillig was a cross-country runner who was killed after being hit by a car in 1994. Ever since then, the family has done a race in honor of him. At the race in September, the family announced they would no longer be organizing the run. It left questions as to whether the race would continue.

“We started doing this 20-years ago, not realizing we would do it for 20 years,” said Carl’s father, Richard Schillig on September 1. “It’s important for everyone to know that the Carl D. Schillig Scholarship Program will continue and maybe the Run with Carl will continue under another director another entity, but as far as our family involvement with the run with Carl, this is our last Run with Carl.”

Dave Borcherding of the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation told us Wednesday, he did not want the race to end once the family stepped down. That's why both education foundations will run the race now.
