Neil Anderson Defeats Mike Jacobs

Neil Anderson, a Moline firefighter, has been selected to represent Illinois’ 36^th Senate District.

With all precincts reporting, Anderson- running for the Republican Party- had 54% of the vote, 35,872 votes.  The incumbent, Senator Mike Jacobs, had 46% of the vote.

When he announced he would be running for State Senator, Anderson said it was time for new leadership, new energy and a new direction.

“I am not a politician, I am just a dad that wants to take the fight to Springfield and challenge the status quo,” Anderson said.

During Jacobs' concession speech, he noted that he believes the attack ads made a negative impact.

"I think the negative ads in this campaign were wrong," Jacobs said. "I do want to congratulate my opponent Neil Anderson. I wish him luck."

Jacobs has served as state senator of the 36^th District of Illinois since 2005, according to the Illinois Senate Democrats’ website. Jacobs' father Denny, served as the Illinois State Senator of the district from 1987-2005. Together, both Jacobs have served in the Illinois State Senate for the past 27 years.
