A Davenport mother admits to shooting her six-year old son with a BB gun, but claims it was an accident.
Police have charged Courtney Owens, 25, with child endangerment with injury. A police affidavit states the young boy suffered a red swollen welt on his hip and was treated at the scene, and says Owens purposely shot him to teach him a lesson about playing with guns.
She disputes that.
"I was on the phone with my mom, messing around, I had just got [the gun] that day. I had one kid in here, a daughter in one room, and he just happened to walk in," she said.
"Like, I'm going to literally kill my kid and shoot, does that make any sense? No, but they arrested me for it," she said.
But neighbors across the street say the six-year old came crying to them about being shot by his mom and they called police.
Owens spent about an hour and a half in the Scott County Jail before she bonded out.
She says the little boy was in school and in her care.
Owens is due back in court in September.
