Three motorcycles, motorcycle accessories and spare keys were stolen from a Davenport man's garage and he says the thieves did more harm than they probably realize.

David Ford, who owns the garage off of Sheridan Street, said the burglary happened between 11 p.m. Monday, August 11  and 6 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

Ford said he got a message Tuesday morning stating his bikes were gone.

"They stole somewhere between $12,000 and $18,000 worth of stuff," Ford said.

"They just kicked the door in," Ford said.  While police were investigating, Ford took his disgust to Facebook to explain who the bikes belong to, and to describe his preferred punishment for the thieves.

"I'd much rather the judge deliver a sentence to you of mowing my grass and shoveling my sidewalks so you can appreciate the value of the hard work..." Ford said in the letter.

"I just want them to know that they took something away from three men who work hard for what they have," said Ford.

Ford's message received hundreds of shares, including some from people he doesn't know.

One of the motorcycles stolen belonged to Ford's brother, who's an active-duty Marine serving overseas.

"I want these men to know that they stole from a man who is defending their freedom," Ford continued, "I hope they lose sleep over that."
