Galesburg teachers cancel picket, offer support to family of student who passed away

Galesburg teachers are directing their thoughts and support to the family of a high school student who died from injuries he sustained in a car crash.

The crash happened Saturday, August 2, 2014. The student, 16-year-old Jason Maulden passed away Sunday. His grandfather, the driver, was killed in the crash.

“In response to the tragic loss of beloved GHS senior Jason Maulden and his grandfather Steve Cervantez, we are asking educators, students and community members to rally around this family with love and support,” said the Galesburg Education Association. “GEA stands by its guiding principle, students and families first.”

An informational  picket that had been scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2014 has been suspended.
