Assumption baseball is moving on to the state semifinal after a win against Harlan.
The Knights headed to Principal Park Stadium Tuesday, July 29, 2014 to compete in the state quarterfinals.
An early 1-1 tie was short-lived as Assumption took the lead in the third inning. Senior Mick Baker scored a run, giving Assumption the lead at 2-1.
In the fourth inning, Harlan got a runner on third, but pitcher Jay Campbell struck out the batter, leaving the score at 2-1.
Another run by Sam Bennett in the fifth brought Assumption into a further lead, 3-1 and by the sixth inning Assumption had a 7-1 lead. Harlan scored four runs that inning to trail Assumption 7-5.
One more run in the seventh brings Assumption up a notch, 8-5. On a walk, Harlan scored a run, bringing them closer to the leaders 8-6.
Assumption took home the win with a final score of 8-7.
