The Davenport City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, July 23, 2014  to check plans for a St. Ambrose University sports complex.

SAU wants to build a 2,500 seat stadium on the St. Vincent's Center property, near Marquette and West Central Park Avenue. Those plans looked promising until Mayor Bill Gluba vetoed the plans July 16, 2014. The week before, the City Council gave its third approval of the plans, voting 6-4 in favor of the project.

"We had it approved by the city staff, the zoning council, and the city council" SAU Director of Government Relations P.J. Foley said July 22, 2014. "We ultimately felt good about where our position was."

The city council needs seven votes Wednesday, to over-ride Mayor Gluba's veto. That means one of the city council members who had not supported the plans before, needs to change their mind Wednesday, for the stadium plan to be approved.

City leaders will also check plans for The Dock development site, after that was vetoed last week too. Wednesday's special city meeting starts at 5p.m. at Davenport City Hall.
