A Davenport woman accused of leaving her baby in a hot car for up to 45 minutes has now been criminally charged.

Breyana Harris, 20, is charged with two counts of endangering the life and health of a child, both misdemeanors.

Prosecutors had at one point intended to file a felony charge, but ultimately went with misdemeanors.

One of the charges reads that Harris left her six month old baby boy "unattended in a car for at least 45 minutes" on a day when the heat index reached 87 degrees. A passerby spotted the baby alone in the car with the windows cracked outside a Dollar General Store in Moline.

Harris' mother attended the hearing. Her grandmother, Marilyn Shorter, says it was "a stupid mistake," and showed an error in judgement,  but says Harris is not a bad mother.

Harris cried a little as she was lead back to the jail. She was appointed a public defender and her bond was set at $15,000.

Her family says they are grateful the baby boy is fine.
