Spieth and Stricker are friends even in competition

Jordan Spieth and Steve Strucker compete against each other but they became friends playing as teammates in the Presidents Cup.

Crowds have flocked to Deere Run to watch them, but the 2014 John Deere Classic is not the first time Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker have played in the the same group.

The two golfers have competed against each other several times.  They have combined to win four John Deere Classic titles.

But, they have also played together, as teammates in the Presidents Cup.

Spieth says he feels fortunate to play in the same pairing with Stricker.

"It's always an honor to have him in the tournament, because it's so rare to be paired with him twice.  This year, I've played with him more than anybody else this year," Spieth said.

The Presidents Cup U.S. team captain selected Spieth because of how well he played, but knew the young golfer would need a veteran to play alongside him.

"In the Presidents Cup, with how nervous and adrenaline going through me, it was nice to know there was a simple game to help me out," Spieth said.

"He's such a good kid," Stricker said, "We had a great time at the Presidents Cup."

"Steve was perfect for him to play with.  They get along very well and play a similar game; both grinders.  Hopefully they will do it again in the Ryder Cup," said 2013 Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III.

Since they teamed together at the Presidents Cup, Spieth and Stricker have become good friends.  Spieth even admits that he finds himself rooting for Stricker at other tournaments.
