More than a thousand people were without electricity in Coal Valley as storms pushed through the Quad Cities and surrounding area Monday afternoon, June 30, 2014.

Customers began reporting outages just before 5 p.m. as storms that included heavy rain, gusty wind and lightning moved into the area from the west.

MidAmerican Energy reported about 1,500 Quad Cities customers without electricity by about 5:30 p.m. About 50 of those outages were reported on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities, and the rest were in Illinois. More than 1,150 of the outages were in the area of Coal Valley.

Fewer than 375 of those outages remained as of 7:15 p.m.

The Monday afternoon power outages followed the path of storms that moved across Iowa, causing more than 4,400 power outages in Waterloo, more than 1,400 in Iowa City and nearly 3,000 in Des Moines.
