If you planned to vote absentee in the Iowa Primary Election, here’s what you need to know.
For Iowa voters requesting an absentee ballot by mail for the election on Tuesday, June 3, the deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, May 30. This is the deadline for which the county auditor must receive your request.
Iowans voting in-person may still register on election day. The Iowa Secretary of State website instructs voters to go to their polling place (polling places can be found here), show a valid photo ID (such as a driver’s license, Iowa ID card, U.S. passport, or employer-issued ID), and provide proof of residence if your ID does not show it (you can use a residential lease, paycheck, bank statement, etc.).
To vote absentee, Iowans must request an absentee ballot from their county auditor. Absentee request forms can be downloaded here. Request forms must be received by the county auditor by 5 p.m. Friday.
Completed ballots need to be “received in the county auditor’s office by the time the polls close on election day” to be eligible for counting. Any ballots received after the polls close on election day must be postmarked by Monday, June 2 and received no later than noon on Monday, June 9. For more information – click here.
