Bettendorf High School students received a lecture on how to avoid distracted driving on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Local attorney Anthony Bribriesco presented material on distracted driving inside the high school auditorium. He lectured about 500 freshman and sophomore students at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Bribriesco says there are 3,700 distracted driving deaths every single year. He also offered the students tips on how to keep people from being distracted behind the wheel.

"You could turn your phone on vibrate, and put your phone outside of your reach, just so you're not tempted to check that text message or check Facebook," Bribriesco said. "You could also deputize your passenger. They could be the designated texter."

Prom is Saturday, May 3, 2014 for Bettendorf High School at the Rogalski Center in Davenport. Rock Island High School also has prom Saturday night, on the Celebration Belle, at 7:30 p.m.
